RADIOGRAPHY COUPLE OF THE YEAR AWARD

To win the radiography couple of the year award, you should be a radiographer married to a radiographer, radiologists or medical physicist. In addition, you should jointly and proudly participate in the World Radiography Day (WRD) celebration on 8^th November and show evidence through cute pictures.

2018 – 2019 Nigerian Radiography Couple Award Winner:

The Abubakars of Maiduguri

The family shown in the picture are the Abubakars; Matthew Garba Abubakar; B.Rad, M.Sc, Ph.D student; Lecturer in Radiography UNIMAID  (husband);

Zamdai Esther (nee Andrew); B.Rad, PgCCT; former Radiography Intern, ABUTH, Zaria, Nigeria; job-hunting post-NYSC Radiographer; from Askira, Uba LGA, Borno State (wife);

Fira Eunice; Nursery One (Elder daughter);

Batina Edna; (Younger daughter).

Mr Matthew Garba Abubakar is a native of Cinene, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. He attended Command Day Secondary School, Bauchi (SSCE); University of Maiduguri (B.Rad), 2010; Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi Campus (M.Sc), 2016; and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi Campus (Ph.D ongoing).

He is currently a lecturer with th Department of Medical Radiography, University of Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria. He doubles as the Borno State Secretary of the Association of Radiographers of Nigeria (ARN).

Mr Abubakar was lecturer to Zamdai. He took notice of her in 2013 when he asked her a simple question and she gave him a winning smile. Since then, he was struck with Cupid’s arrows. In Radiography practice in Nigeria, it is rare for a lecturer to  knot a student. So, his advances were viewed with skepticism. A surprise, unannounced visit to the Andrews confirmed his intentions. They were married on 13^th December 2014 as soon as she graduated with B.Rad from UNIMAID.
